What Is Reputation Management Software?
Software that asks customers for reviews automatically, collects them in one place, and helps you respond — usually bundled with business texting and web chat.
Also called review management software, review software
Reputation management software automates the part of getting reviews that never happens on its own: asking. It sends the request after the job, collects what comes back, monitors the platforms and helps you reply, and it is usually sold bundled with texting and web chat.
What it does that matters
One thing: it asks. A text or email goes out shortly after the job is closed, with a link, at the moment the customer is most likely to act. Everything else in the category — dashboards, sentiment charts, competitor benchmarks — is secondary to whether the request goes out every single time.
That is also why the feature frequently does not need to be bought separately. Housecall Pro, Jobber and ServiceTitan all send review requests, and a small shop paying for a second platform to do it again is paying twice.
The rules, which are not optional
Ask every customer, not just the happy ones: filtering who gets asked based on an expected rating is review gating, and Google’s business profile policies prohibit it. Buying reviews, writing them, or offering something in exchange for a positive one is prohibited by the FTC’s rules on advertising, and that is a rule with penalties rather than a guideline.
Why it matters more than it did
Because review text is now being summarized rather than counted. When a system like Ask Maps describes your business to somebody, it is working from what your customers actually wrote. A hundred reviews that say something specific about punctuality and clean sites is a different asset from a hundred that say “great job”.
The bottom line
Make sure something asks every customer, every time — ideally the software you already pay for. Then reply to what comes back, and never touch the line between asking for reviews and manufacturing them.
