What Is a Google Business Profile Post?

A short update published to a Google Business Profile, shown to people who find the business on Search or Maps.

A still life representing Google Business Profile post.

A post on a Google Business Profile is a short update with a photo, and usually a button: call, book, learn more. It appears on the profile itself, where somebody who has just found you is deciding whether to call.

It is not social media. Nobody follows your profile and nobody is scrolling a feed of them. A post is there for the person who is already looking at you, and its job is to make the business look current and give them a reason to act now.

What makes a good one

Something that happened. A job your crew finished this morning. A seasonal reminder that is actually seasonal. A note that you answer the phone at night, in the week the temperature drops.

What does not work is a slogan. “Quality workmanship, family owned” tells a homeowner nothing they cannot read on every other profile in the list.

How often

Often enough that the most recent one is never months old. Weekly is a sensible rhythm for a service trade, and it is a rhythm nobody in a busy shop keeps by hand, which is why so many profiles have hundreds of reviews and no posts at all.

PostIQ publishes them for you, from the photos your crew already takes.

Where the rules come from

What a post may contain, and how long it stays visible, is Google’s decision rather than ours: Business Profile Help is where that is documented, and the product page is where you claim a profile you have never signed into.

The bottom line

Treat posts as the heartbeat of the profile rather than as announcements. Weekly, from real jobs, with the license number on the asset. A homeowner is not reading them; they are checking whether anyone is home.
