A shore town where the season is short, the houses are old and small, and the booking happens in winter.
Point Pleasant and Point Pleasant Beach are compact, older shore towns: cottages, bungalows and two-family conversions on small lots, a good share of them rentals or second homes, and a season that effectively runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
The consequence that matters is that the buying decision happens in the winter. An owner who lives elsewhere and wants a bathroom finished before the summer is choosing a contractor in January or February, from whatever they can find online, without meeting anybody. What they find is a profile and a feed, and for most contractors here it is a photograph from two summers ago.
The housing is old enough that work disturbing paint frequently falls under the EPA’s Renovation, Repair and Painting program, which is worth saying plainly to an owner comparing bids. Permits are the borough’s under the state code, and the 13VH number goes on the advertising.
